CrossFit Factorial’s 2025 Winter Nutrition Challenge!

Start laying your health foundation by joining CrossFit Factorial’s Winter Nutrition Challenge!

Good nutrition lays the foundation for a healthy, fit lifestyle. People are always trying to win the hunger games when trying to lose weight. In the past, starving yourself and eating fat-free was the assumed best way to get skinny. However, research since then has shown us that overall physical and mental health leads to positive body composition changes. This good health starts with natural wholesome foods, in amounts fitting our lifestyle and activity level.

The Factorial Nutrition Challenge focuses on this model of health, and resulting improved body composition, by helping participants learn how to choose healthier foods, create healthy habits, and make allowances and negotiations for real life! Things like vacations, sickness, power outages, and events. Instead of getting derailed, you can learn how to continue progressing toward your goals! We measure success through points, but the mindset can carry over beyond a point system.

This Winter’s Nutrition Challenge is a team based health challenge lasting five weeks. The challenge starts on Monday, January 27th and ends on Sunday, March 2nd with the last score entry on Monday, October 3rd for the previous week.

Challenge Details

Step 1: Nutrition

This challenge will have you focus on eating wholesome foods in balance from meal to meal. You will learn how to build your meals and eat the right nutrients in the right proportions using your hands as a measuring guide. We will also cut back on processed foods and alcohol for the duration of the challenge.

Points:  All weeks start on Monday and end on Sunday. You earn 1 point everyday you eat all meals in balance with your prescribed portion amounts. If at any point during the day you go “off-plan,” you do not earn your nutrition point that day.

The challenge goal is real life eating. If you have a special occasion that causes you to go off-plan for a meal, you just miss out on earning a point that day. Many people will go through this challenge without ever scoring a perfect week, and still have amazing results. I want to promote real life, healthy mind and body eating that can be maintained after the challenge. That includes going off track here and there.

Focus on getting back on and getting that point the very next day!

Step 2: Weekly Habits

Eating is largely habitual. The best long-lasting action we can take for our health is breaking negative habits and instilling positive ones. Therefore, you will be able to earn points for your team by completing a weekly habit challenge. The challenge will be released every Sunday evening in PushPress, and will start on Monday. Every day you complete the assigned task, you will earn a point for your team.

Step 3:  Activity

Every time you do something active for 30 minutes or more (raise your heart rate above resting), you earn a point for that day.  Activities can include family walks, getting to the gym, cleaning your house, etc.

Step 4:  Community Support

Community support involves not only supporting your team, but everyone in the challenge.  For every day that you post a comment to a conversation, and/or submit a post yourself (recipe, personal experience, question to the group, etc.) in our Facebook Group or in PushPress, you earn a point!

The Point System

The system for tracking points is simple and straightforward, making it easy to hold yourself and your teammates accountable. You only have to log your total points for the previous week, once a week, on Monday!

In total, you can earn up to 7 points a week for Nutrition, 7 points a week for Weekly Habits, 7 points a week for Activity, and 7 points a week for Community.

Extra Credit!

If you do manage to get a perfect week in any of the four categories, give yourself a bonus 1 point for each one (up to 4 bonus points possible).

In addition, if you kept your alcohol intake to one serving for the entire week, award yourself 1 bonus point. Abstaining from alcohol for the whole week will earn you 3 bonus points.

This makes the perfect score for the week 35 points (7 perfect days in all categories, plus 4 bonus points for a perfect week, plus 3 bonus points for no alcohol).

The idea is to hit your goal each day to contribute the most points you can for your team, while still having incentive to stick with the challenge earning points, even if you slip up during the week.

Reporting Scores

Each week you will report your individual score (add all 7 days of the week together, and extra credit if earned, for one total number) in PushPress on Mondays. Since the challenge is for five weeks, you will report in PushPress a total of 6 times. I will then tally up the points and post the total so you can see how your team is doing relative to the others.

Let’s get some team spirit and camaraderie going and support each other, with some healthy competition, in becoming healthier and happier!
